For YEARS I've thought about doing a juice cleanse. I researched and researched brands, flavors, the differences between which vegetable and fruit is good for what, and why. And for years, I did all this research, to never end up doing the actual juice cleanse. I was scared, I was nervous. I figured that I would starve, or better yet, I'd fail.
With being vegan and gluten free, I often cheat on my wheat allergy, because sometimes I just want to taste amazing vegan things, and often times, I regret it. This year I've been REALLY good at not cheating on my wheat allergy. I guess I learned my lesson on eating wheat and then suffering the consequences. I made a promise to myself that I would treat myself to a juice cleanse to reset and reboot my body. Clear it out of the gunk I've put into it. Now I know what you're thinking, a one day juice cleanse isn't going to be a miraculous eraser. Plus, it takes MONTHS for gluten to get out of your system. Regardless, I knew my body needed this.
I know many people do juice cleanses when they're trying to loose weight, and while this wasn't the reasoning behind this cleanse, there was a huge weight pro I noticed. Let me explain my day as it went with each juice, and then you can read all about my final thoughts on the juice cleanse at the end!
I'm a huge fan of Pressed Juicery and go every time I'm in the city to get Citrus 2, my favorite and honestly, the only one I ever buy. That was until I saw the amazing deal they had. A juice cleanse, 6 bottles of juice, plus 2 waters to drink throughout the day, for ONLY $35! UMMMM, hello! Yes, thank you!
So let's talk about the cleanse I got!
I purchased cleanse #2 (their most popular option), because even though it was my first juice cleanse, I eat vegetables more than anything else daily. The flavors suited me better, but they aren't many differences between 1, 2, and 3.
I started my morning by opening Greens 2, and my goodness was it delicious. Now, to many people, this will taste like you're eating a salad for breakfast. As someone who eats a salad every day, I didn't think anything of it. The lemon is very prominent, but it's not biter or sour. I also enjoyed how refreshing it was, which reminded me that I wouldn't typically go for something like this upon waking up. I usually have a matcha latte, so this was still green in color, but tasted totally different.
This was the easiest juice cleanse ever at this point. Not only did I start the day off with an amazing green juice, but now I get to drink my favorite juice of all time. What a win. Citrus 2 is a lot of people's favorite, and it's for a reason. This juice is a pineapple and mint lovers dream. It's the perfect amount of mint, with enough pineapple that's not sickening. In the summer, this is my go to at all times. It's refreshing, sweet, and the perfect pick me up.
So Greens 3 is pretty similar to the first one, but this one has ginger in it, and I'm all about it. Now, if you're not a ginger fan, I believe you'd still be OK with this, because I didn't even realize there was ginger in it until I read the bottle. I'm not going to be repetitive with my review, because it really did taste just like Greens 2, just a little more sweet, which explains the ginger.
At this point, I wasn't drinking my juices every two hours in completion. I was also cleaning the house, because they encourage activity when doing the cleanse. I still followed the schedule of drinking juices every 2 hours, but Roots 3 took me FOREVER to drink. Now, I'm a huge fan of ginger. I eat ginger on it's own, love ginger candies, whenever I get a fresh juice, I request ginger and beet together, because it's my favorite combination, so I was really excited about this one. That was, until I drank it. MY GOODNESS WAS THIS SPICY!! I might have just gotten a really spice batch, with a strong ginger, but wowza, this took me about an hour to fully drink.
I was extremely happy to cleanse my burnt tongue and tonsils with Citrus 1 at this point. Now like I said prior, Citrus 2 is my FAVORITE, so I knew I'd like this one. This has coconut water and aloe vera included, no mint. Although I liked this one, Citrus 2 is still my favorite. I actually let Chris taste this one, and he said it reminded him of watermelon water going sour, and I totally agree with that. That's not a bad thing though, so don't take it that way. I think the coconut water and aloe vera dilute the flavor of the pineapple. It's still refreshing and delicious.
Now, this is the first beverage in the First Timer started kit, and this is the reason I didn't get that one. Although I'm a fan of their almond drinks, I know they are really thick and super duper filling. This was however, an amazing night time drink. It hits the spot and allows you to have a sweet treat, without the calories of eating ice cream, or even cookies. The sea salt might turn people off, but you don't even taste it truthfully. It just tastes like an almond milk milkshake. It's a winner in my book.
Throughout the day, I was told to drink the Chlorophyll Water to stay hydrated, while also drinking 8 cups of water, per your daily requirement. I know a lot of people are into making their own chlorophyll water at home, so I was stoked to be able to try this with a juice cleanse. I don't often see brands do this, or even provide it, so it's super awesome that Pressed Juicery does! To me, I could tell the water wasn't just water, but it's not a taste that I mind. Honestly, it doesn't taste like much of anything, but you know somethings there.
Lastly, at the end of the night, before you go to bed, they suggest drinking the Aloe Vera H20 to keep things moving. I will admit, I was so full, yes...you read that right, I was full from drinking all day, that I didn't drink this before bed. I also didn't drink it because I have a bladder issue and I was peeing ALL day because of the cleanse. I didn't want to chug more liquid prior to going to bed, to end up waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Regardless, the water is as you expect. My mom used to drink water and aloe vera daily, to help her go to the bathroom, so you can understand why they suggest this beverage.
Here are my final thoughts, pros and cons with the entire experience. For starters, I was so full of drinking liquids all day. Honestly, they filled me up more, and even faster than food does. Another pro is the fact that they filled me up, but didn't cause any bloating. I know I'm not the only one that suffers from severe baby food belly's. Lastly, they were delicious and I didn't miss eating food, I just missed the act of chewing on something.
With that said, I have 2 cons.....1, my feces in the morning (TMI, whatever...it's a juice cleanse post), was not what it normally is. I have a feeling that just drinking juice, and not eating greens physically, would cause that, but it wasn't horrible. My second con was having to drink it every 2 hours. While I get it.....I didn't think it was necessary, and at times, I felt like I was forcing myself to drink something I wasn't physically ready for.
Would I recommend the Pressed Juicery cleanse? ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY! I'm going to do this again, and I'm even going to experiment with Cleanse 1 and Cleanse 3. Which brings me to my last and concluding statement, I'm ready for a 3 day cleanse now!
So tell me, have you ever done a juice cleanse?
If so, tell my your experience with the juices and the brand you chose to align with.
If you haven't tried one, are you curious now?
