As much as I love getting private messages on IG, FB, and even texts, I thought this would just be easier for all my readers and followers in general. Too often, people don't realize shopping cruelty free and vegan, is way easier, then people tend to believe. When I first started buying cruelty free, I would automatically look for the bunny logo, or at least a statement saying, 'Not Tested On Animals'. With that said, yes, there are a lot of brands that use this, but aren't being true to their consumers, nor their statement.
Parent owned companies are extremely big nowadays, and as sad as it makes me, I support you if you buy from them, because it's way more beneficial to buy those brands, and support them, then those that truly test. Some parent owned companies include; NYX, Becca, It Cosmetics, Burt's Bees, Urban Decay, and Too Faced, to name a few. Below, I'm going to only feature brands that are 100% cruelty free and don't sell in China, nor are parent owned.
I'm going to break down each place to shop for cruelty free items, and my top 5 products from those locations. I will also feature an 'indie' section, as I buy a LOT of indie products, from a bunch of amazing brands. I often think the best products I've bought, are homemade ones truthfully. So here we go.
All products are linked and some are affiliated, those are marked with an *.
Drugstores - I have mentioned so many times, that I get so many great deals, thanks to shopping at drugstores. I'm going to share my favorite brands sold at companies like, Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS.....but I want to point out that each one has different specials and promotions. Every week (when I need certain items), I look at each of the companies weekly ads, and see what's on sale. My favorite is Rite Aid, as I often get Wet N Wild for 40% off, Marc Anthony for buy 1, get 1 for .01c, and Physicians Formula for either 60% off, or buy 1 get 1 free. Another great thing with these companies, is you get points or cash rewards, that you can use the next time you shop. Because of the money I spent on Physicians Formula stuff, with my Plenti points, I got $18 of GAS for free! So here are my top 5 products, purchased from drugstores.
- Physicians Formula Argan Oil BB Cream
- Yes To Face Wipes (Cucumber and Charcoal) *
- Wet N Wild Setting Spray
- Wet N Wild Mega Last Lip Color *
- Marc Anthony Hair Care (such an underrated brand)
Ulta - One of the top makeup, bodycare, and skincare stops! Not only do they seem to have it all, they also send out coupons for either $3.50 off or 20% off one item. A lot of people prefer Ulta to Sephora, and I can totally understand why, especially with all the constant promotions they have with brands. The one thing I really love about Ulta, is that their house brand, is actually cruelty free! Personally, I haven't tried any of the products, yet, but they have been on my radar for a while. With both high end and low priced items of all kind, Ulta is a one stop shop for many!
- Pacifica Dream Big Mascara *
- Zoya Nail Polish Remover
- Sun Bum Sunscreen (currently buy 1, get 1 50% off)
- Maui Moisture Coconut Oil Conditioner (currently buy 1, get 1 50% off)
- Orly Polish (currently buy 1, get 1 50% off)
Target - Target has been constantly stepping their game, when it comes to cruelty free and vegan brands/products. When I first started really getting into cruelty free, Target was a company mentioned to me time and time again. It wasn't until about my second year being cruelty free, that I really started paying attention to their stuff, and looking at their deals. One thing I will say, if you don't have the Cartwheel app, you probably won't want to buy the items for full price, since most brands are sold either online with promotions, or at Ulta.
- S.W. Basics Oil Serum *
- W3ll People Realist Mineral Setting Powder *
- Acure Brightening Facial Scrub *
- Derma E 2 in 1 Charcoal Mask *
- Nubian Heritage African Black Soap *
Wholefoods - I know a lot of people steer away from Wholefoods because they believe it's pricey. While I don't disagree with you there, there are a lot of hidden gems, beauty and food wise, that you can't find other places. I often go there and buy vegan stuff I can't find other places, but I have also been lucky enough to buy the $18 Beauty Bag from this year. It introduced me to a bunch of clean and organic brands, which were all cruelty free. The Wholefoods in house brand is ALSO cruelty free, so if you're vegan, just double check ingredients, and you're good to go.
- Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner *
- Hello Toothpaste *
- Everyone Epsom Soak, Grapefruit & Pepper
- Schmidt's Rose & Vanilla Deodorant
- Local Handmade Soap (each area has local makers)
Trader Joe's - Many people know that Trader Joe's is a one stop shop for many vegan and cruelty free people. I am one of those people and often stop myself from buying things online, just so I have an excuse to go to Trader Joe's. A little known fact people don't know about Trader Joe's and Aldi, is that they are related companies. With that said, both brand items are cruelty free and mostly vegan. If you shop at either of the locations, it's safe to support the brands. But Trader Joe's does sell other name brand stuff, which from what I've seen at my locations, are always cruelty free. Best part about Trader Joe's beauty and bath items.....they are all less then $10.
- Spa Face Wash With Tea Tree
- Coconut Body Butter (seasonal scents available)
- Tea Tree Oil Vegetable Soap
- Oils (Jojoba, Coconut, Vitamin E, Tea Tree)
- Preserve Recycled Toothbrush *
Credo Beauty - It surprises me that more people don't know about this amazing store! Not only are they online, but they are popping up stores in a bunch of locations. Just this week, Chicago had their grand opening. One thing I truly love about Credo Beauty is the events they have. They introduce you to new products, provide facials and educate you on the right products for your skin type. Truth be told, it's a dream job for me. Everything in the store is CLEAN, mostly organic and natural, but not all are cruelty free or vegan. Below are my favorite items, but there are so many other brands I love and support at the store. Follow them on IG to see when events are happening in your area!
- Osea Ocean Cleanser *
- Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser *
- EVOLVh Shampoo & Conditioner *
- Captain Blankenship Golden Waves Sea Salt Shimmer Spray *
- Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive *
Sephora - Of course I have to have Sephora on the list. From makeup, to hair care, to perfume and body care.....Sephora is known to be the main location people shop at. I have slowly stopped going there, as I often buy from the brand specifically, since they have sales often, and whenever I go into a store, I seem to get judged if I'm not wearing makeup. I have only had 2 times in my entire life going into Sephora, that I have felt comfortable. With that said, I just stick to online shopping and admire at the fact that Sephora keeps adding a bunch of organic, and cruelty free brands. Just recently Antonym and Axiology were added! I can't wait to see what else they bring in for cruelty free buyers.
- Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks (Lolita and Nosferatu)
- Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops (Halo)
- Pinrose Perfume (With my link, get $10 off your purchase of $20 or more)
- Axiology Natural Lipstick (Devotion)
- Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask
Indie - Anyone that follows me on social media and watches my YouTube videos, knows that indie products from all types of brands, are nothing new in my household. From soap, to bath bombs, to perfumes, and even candles, I've tried a lot. There are so many brands that I have yet to try, and so many that I love, but I wanted to share my top 5. If you follow me closely on social media, 2 of these are no surprise at all. One of these is pretty recent in my collection, but it only shows that the brand and products have really proven to be amazing. I will eventually do a whole post on just indies, but here's a short version of what's to come.
- Supernatural Lacquer - FAVORITE 5 free nail polish, and best base coat.
- Witch Baby Soap - my favorite bath bombs, truth be told, and my bf's favorite soap.
- Tarabusi Creep Soap - MY favorite soap, and I'm sad she's always sold out.
- Common Good - my go to cleaning supplies. Tea Tree all purpose cleaner is the best!
- DollyMoo - recent brand in my collection, with a life changing rosehip facial serum!
Thrive Market - This is a pretty recent discovery for me, as I signed up to be a member. The one thing that keeps me on this site, is the discount and the fact that with a $60 membership (yearly), you are donating to those in need. Thrive Market sells a bunch of brands you find at Wholefoods and even Target, but usually at a discounted price. Another great thing is they will have free products with $49 purchases. They offer different items on different days, so if you want to be updated, get the Thrive Market app. With my link, you get 15% off your first order!
- Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay
- Aura Cacia Organic Tea Tree Oil
- Diva Cup
- Meyers Lmon Verbana Dish Soap
- Bon Ami Cleaning Powder
Vitacost - Ever since getting a membership with Thrive Market, I haven't really shopped at Vitacost. Truthfully, I don't even remember the last time I made an order with Vitacost. But when I had just started being cruelty free, Vitacost was my number one stop. I feel like both Thrive Market and Vitacost are extremely similar, especially with the discounts, but I like that Thrive Market has the donation part. I also like the referral program better with Thrive Market. as this one is only $5 store credit, if you use my link. Regardless, here are some goodies to get.
- Heritage Hydrogen Peroxide Wintermint Mouthwash
- Huraw! Lip Balm
- Everyone Lotion, Coconut & Lemon
- Mychelle Tinted Sun Shield SPF 50
- Eco Tools Six Piece Essentials Eye Set
Petit Vour - Not many people know about this gem. Petit Vour is a subscription box, which also has an online store. You can buy full sized items of all the things that end up coming in your box. The best part about Petit Vour, you get 20% cashback on all purchases. I actually always forget about that, and still have yet to make an order through them. But that's going to change, especially with the amazing products and brands they featured in this months box. I don't have any affiliations with Petit Vour, so trust me when I tell you, the box is worth it and you get to try out a bunch of high end brands you wouldn't regularly. Below are my 5 favorite products I was introduced to because of the box.
Edit - I was removed from Amazon's affiliation program, for no valid reason because of this post, so instead of advertising them, even though I know many of you will still buy from them and so items are still linked to them, I am going to link to to the Target site, as I much rather support that company. Target has proven time and time again, that they truly care about cruelty free and natural skincare/beauty, so I think it's best to support a company that focuses on the lifestyle I discuss and feature.
Let me know what are some of your favorite places to shop for cruelty free and vegan items!
