So you're going cruelty free, vegan, or more natural/green....let's start you off by getting you to stop using the worst thing ever for your lips, Chapstick. Whenever I see people using it, not only do I shriek in terror, but I remember all the times I SWORE it was doing something, and bought flavor after flavor, scent after scent. If I could go back and take one thing away from my younger self, it would be this nightmare of a product. Can you just take a minute to look at the ingredients and tell me if you know or understand any of them? I already know the answer, alas, that's why we are here!
When I started my cruelty free journey, I knew that the first thing that needed to get swapped out was my lip balm. When I was growing up, I played the trumpet and my lips were ALWAYS chapped, all my trumpet players know the hardship. It never stopped though, no matter how much lip balm I would put on. But just like everyone else, I constantly used Chapstick and swore it was working because the moment I wouldn't use it, my lips would be burned and chapped, and beat up.
I used to be an Ipsy member, and they sent out a bunch of awesome products, but no lip balm until I cancelled and my sister got one. That is the only one in my collection that is NOT vegan, but all the others are. I also know that people love and swear by both Pacifica and Hurraw, but as you can see, I have too many at the time and don't need to add any more to my collection. Alas, I have given Chris a couple, as he got obsessed with one (more on that below), and I gifted him one.
I will say that ever since going natural with my lip balm, I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in my lips, and how chapped, or cracked they get. I also use a lip scrub occasionally and actually brush my lips every night with my toothbrush. It's been a trick I've done since forever, and I notice a huge difference doing so.
Now that we got all that out of the way, let's get to all the lip balms in my life!
Let's start off with the one natural lip balm that changed my life. This one isn't vegan, and I can tell a difference in the fact that it has beeswax. If they came out with a vegan version, I would hands down buy this one again. I use this one at night, before going to bed. The formula is silky, and smooth, and super hydrating. When I wake up in the morning, my lips are so smooth and there's no driness. I have the scent Peppermint Creme and it smells like a mint candy! Every purchase from this brand helps fund cleft surgeries for children. If that's not a huge reason to support them, you have no soul. They are USDA Organic, cruelty free, and contains fair trade ingredients.
Wild Rituals Soap Company has been featured on my Meet The Maker series, and I immediately fell in love with the Roots + Berries Lip + Cheek Tint. While this particular items isn't available anymore, she does have a new version of this. The reason I love this product so much is because it's TOTALLY natural and the pigment is insane. Plus, it smells like berries in the most natural and delicious way. The formula isn't as creamy as I like, but the tint and smell of it, make me keep this one in my wallet at all times.
R.L Linden & Co was a brand many fell in love with thanks to the cruelty free subscription box, Petit Vour. I had never heard of the brand, but when I got it in my box, I was intrigued. Lot's of people were swearing it was an amazing product, and so great for cuticles. As you know, I'm a sucker for cuticle balm. So I finally tried it on both my nails and cuticles, and while I don't like it for my cuticles, I LOVE it as a lip balm. THIS is the formula all lip balms should have. It's waxy, and smooth, super hydrating and the smell is super subtle. Almost non existent. I'm saddened they no longer exist as a brand.
Prior to the two lip balms mentioned above, my go to lip balms were actually the Ellovi ones. Praised by the cruelty free and vegan community for so long, I won a giveaway and got both a tinted and the scent vanilla. Now, the tinted one I don't like as much as the Wild Rituals one, as the tint is very minimal and subtle, but most importantly, I don't like the scent. It just smells like straight shea butter, and it's just a bit meh. Now, the vanilla one is AMAZING. It's so amazing that my bf actually stole it from me. It's actually his favorite lip balm from his collection. It smells like the sweetest, natural cake frosting ever!
If we're going to talk about things smelling amazing, let's get right into La Natura in Coco Vanilla! I also won this lip balm in a giveaway and this one is a BIG one. I honestly don't know how long it'll take me to finish this one, but if you're a fan of the Palmer's coco lip balms, the glue tube ones, you'll love this one. The scent is very similar, just not as artificial smelling, and the texture is pretty much the same. I used to swear by the Palmers coco stick for years, and this is a great replacement for it in the natural, cruelty free, and vegan market. By the way, this one has aloe vera in it, so it's a super hydrating one!
Speaking of hydrating, THIS is actually my favorite lip balm at the moment, and has been for the past year. I mentioned Brown Jenkin from Arcane Bunny on my favorites video last summer, but mentioned I didn't like the smell. Well, after a year of using it because the formula is so amazing, I got used to the scent. I really don't know how to explain the scent, but I'll state it's not sweet, it's a bit earthy, and not for everyone. Regardless, the formula is hands down my favorite. This one lives in the living room, and I'm constantly using it throughout the day. I've debated putting it in my bag, because I love it that much.
What does live in my bag at all times is this multi tasker. You guys already know I LOVE S.W. Basics with all my love. I swear by 80% of their products and this one is no different. This salve is great for everything! You have dry lips, put this on. You have dry cuticles, put this on. You have a dry or chapped nose, put this on. I think you get the point, you can put this salve on anything, at any time. While it is a bit unsanitary having it in a metal container, and just putting your fingers in it, I find because of that, I often use it as even a hand lotion. Plus, the geranium scent is so so so lovely, especially right now as the flowers blossom!
One scent people are going to love is the coffee scent from Bare Bones. A cruelty free and vegan company that is often promoting their products through the Non Tox Rev Crew. I got this lip balm because I really wanted to support the brand, and got it for free after buying their tattoo balm. As much as I love the scent of coffee, this lip balm is just to wet for me. With that said, if you are a fan of lip balms that melt upon your lips, this is the product for you. Because it's just too silky for me, I often use it before going to sleep.
Continuing with yummy smelling lip balms, I'm obsessed with the chocolate PC cup one from The Fanciful Fox. I often feel that this brand is very underrated but it is ALWAYS at the vegan pop up's in Brooklyn and NJ. That's how I first stumbled upon them and ended up supporting them. I actually bought this one for Chris for Christmas, and surprisingly he isn't a fan of it. I do understand his complaint though, although it smells amazing (super sweet), upon putting it on your lips, you can taste the wax, that's the main issue. Regardless, the formula is PHENOMENAL! It's very similar to the Arcane and R.L.
Another one of Chris's is the Nesting Zone peppermint vanilla lip balm. This was a free gift with purchase when he purchased some of the matcha soaps. I actually am surprised he didn't give it to me upon looking at it, because it looks tinted. The smell isn't like the Lasting Smiles, it's more subtle in mint and I barely smell the vanilla in it. But that's perfect for the people that like the scent of mint, but are often overwhelmed by it. And by the way, it's not tinted, but it does make your lips look super juicy! It's not super wet or silky, but it gives your lips a subtle sheen.
Lastly, I have one I haven't opened yet, but I want to mention it because it's a vegan and cruelty free brand that deserves support. I actually got this one free in a gift bag from the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival. The brand has a bunch of vegan and cruelty free items, but I was super stoked about the scent of cinnamon and cupuacu. As many of you know, cinnamon is often a great way of helping your lips get plumper. While I can't tell you how the formula and scent really are, since I haven't opened it, I can still tell you you should support Surya Brasil.
Earlier I mentioned that I use a lip scrub, so I want to just give it a quick shout out and mention it. I actually bought this lip scrub because of Lex from averycoolgirllex. French Girl isn't a new brand to me, but the lip polish was. I was excited because it's rose scented and I had heard it's not as harsh as some others. That's usually my complaint. Also, this is sugar, not salt. I have tried the Lush ones and didn't really like them, so I'm stoked on this one. I use the scrub, rub it on my lips, and then I remove it with water, followed by a towel to remove the dry skin. It's amazing and works so wonderful. I use it a handful of times a month.
There you have it! All the vegan, cruelty free, and natural lip balms I own, use, and highly recommend!
