For the longest time, I debated making a purchase from Witch Baby Soap. I kept seeing it all over my social media accounts, and thought the whole look and feel of the brand, was so cryptic and romantic. And yes, both those words go well together, especially when it comes to this brand.
When I first started my Meet The Maker series, I knew I wanted the brand to be featured, and figured I'd finally make a purchase, and see what the hype was all about. Months after the email exchange, Chelsea and I met face to face for my very first IN PERSON Meet The Maker interview. I was nervous and excited, as not only is this a well known brand, it was my first time doing an in person interview, since college.
It's safe to say, I fell in love with Chelsea and we had a 4 hour hang out sesh, with questions and answers periodically. She even gifted me a couple of stuff to try out. We talked about future plans for her and the company, and collections she is inspired to make and that are coming out this year.
The Tarot Collection came out yesterday, so if you were planning on ordering anything, nows the time. Speaking of the Tarot Collection, on Thursday, her inspiration playlist will be posted on the music section, so stay tuned.
Let's meet my new friend.
Where did the name Witch Baby come from?
Just came to me one day. I was thinking of names and it just happened. I never thought up anything else and I had just had a baby, so it was possibly the influence.
How did you get into creating handmade products and what has been your favorite part of the experience?
As a kid, I used to mix my moms stuff to make product. I then went to cosmetic school, and was always into the products themselves. Started experimenting, as I used to make hair care and face masks and thus, started my company.
The creative aspect of my job is my favorite part. It's the most rewarding, as I love working on new collections and spell boxes. I make a mood board and playlist for every collection we make. (stay tuned for music playlist on Thursday)
To any new customers, what is the #1 product you recommend and why?
Psychic bath bomb for sure. It's comforting, has a meditative smell and makes you feel extravagant.
Do you have any new moon rituals? Share with us.
Deep clean on the new moon. It's been 7 years with the same meditation because of my 4 year old.
What is your bath time routine like?
I used to have a routine before my daughter, now whenever I can or have time. Every Sunday though, I do a face and hair mask, exfoliate and bath. My daughter took bath time away from me and does her own hour bath time. Her favorite bath bomb is the Psychic.
What do you do for ‘me’ time?
Lots of reading late at night, when daughter goes to sleep. Or binge TV shows like; Buffy or Murder House (American Story).
Why do you think people love bath bombs and handmade lotion as much as they do?
It's a culture shift, people want authentic products not made in a factory. People want to support a company, where money goes to a community. It's a cycle, as you see it with beer, cheeses, jewelry, etc...
What is something that is overhyped and you just don’t understand why?
Sometimes I think about what it's like to be a person who wears khakis. No judgment, it's just so far away from my style, I can't seem to understand it.
What do you have in store for the year 2017 and what are you wanting to accomplish?
First, I would like everything to be in stock at all times! I'd also love to expand on the main line of products, and create full collections for each scent. Exciting collections planned, next is Psychic collection.
What is one thing you wish you could go back and change, within your life or company?
I would probably pay attention to peoples intuitions more. That's what I would tell my teenage self. I've blindly trusted people in the past at such an early age. And save some money.
What are you currently listening to that you’re obsessed with?
Jolene from Lady Gaga, Minor Threat, Goldfrapp, movie soundtracks, The Specials, Psychic Playlist....all over. Hardcore, indie, metal, punk, blues.
What’s the last thing you did for yourself?
Got a facial and a massage, it was magical. I hadn't done one since before the baby, so I had a 'treat yo' self' moment, in the form of a christmas present.
What’s one thing you miss about your childhood?
Lazy summers, I really miss it. Those were the best. Especially since I lived by the Jersey shore.
In ten years, where do you see yourself and Witch Baby?
Hopefully a retail store, multiple locations, and have some books written, eventually.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
I'm a big wrestling fan, even listen to a wrestling podcast, and I'm in a secret wrestling FB group.
No wonder me and Chelsea got along. It was so much fun getting to know her through these questions and just in general from meeting with her.
Witch Baby will actually start having local pick up by the end of this month/early April.
But the most exciting part of it all, this summer they will be opening their retail store, and I can't wait to share it with you, when the day comes.
Have you tried any Witch Baby stuff? What's your favorite item?
