When I was first introduced into the indie polish world, Noodles Nail Polish was actually one of the first brands I followed and admired from afar. Now that I think about it, I can't believe it took me so long to not only have Natalie featured, but own polishes from her. I'm ashamed to say that I finally bought Noodles Nail Polish, during my purge and no shopping spree. Alas, I actually only owned Balsam and Pine up until Natalie sent me some of the new summer goodies!
Regardless of that, I was always sold on Natalie's use of glitter and color contrast. I feel like out of most indie brands, she really and truly experiments with color and isn't afraid to try something different and exciting. You can tell just by these polishes, that it's definitely not something you can find at the store, and within so many indies creating polish now, Natalie still stands out amongst so many.
Let's get to know the creative and vibrant mind behind Noodles Nail Polish.
Let's start off easy and simple with having you explain that brand name, Noodles Nail Polish.
Many people hear it and think pasta! Surprisingly it doesn't mean that. It's just a nickname from when I was younger that has no explanation. The other day I saw a post on facebook about pet names and how most people call them a nickname derived from their name but is so different from their name, and I guess you can kind of think of Noodle that way too! It started based off my name, Natalie.
You started with glitter toppers, have you ever thought about creating a peel off base to make it easier for people to wear these type of polishes?
I've never thought of making a peel off base myself, but I always try and suggest easy ways to remove the glitter to my customers and give recommendations for great base polishes from other indie makers.
You've been around since 2013, how has the brand grown and evolved since the very start?
As we've grown I have continued to make different finishes of polishes and focus more on what the customers prefer. When I first started glitter toppers were more popular, but now I try to make more crellies because that's what the customers purchase most. I wouldn't be here without their support so what they like is very important to Noodles.
With so many indie polish brands around, how do you work to differentiate your creations?
I try my best to make unique polishes that haven't been seen before. I love looking on pinterest or online for inspiration photos and putting different color combinations together that haven't been seen before.
Like most indie brands, polishes are continuously being changed, how do you come up with polishes each collection?
I make a collection for each season, so I try and find inspiration from holidays and images from the season. Sometimes I'll create one polish and then take one thing from that to create each other new polish in the collection. For example, with our neon trio we just made for Polish Con we took all 3 colors and incorporated them into each one for a cohesive trio.
With that said, what has been your favorite creation from the very beginning, to now?
Being in business for 5 years now has given me hundreds to pick from! It's so hard to pick a favorite, but I think I would pick the glitter topper that helped us take off, “Sleepy Hollow.” Halloween polishes are my favorite to make and I love wearing this one every year around Halloween. “Cranberry Twist” would be my next pick!
Your polishes range from delicate and girly, to deep and transformative, what's your favorite type of style and finish?
It changes all the time! I'm really enjoying shimmers and holos right now such as “Moonlit Seas” from our Summer collection. I'm sure it'll change in a few weeks!
Because there are so many indie polish brands, which 3 brands would you love to collaborate with?
This is a tough decision! There are so many brands and owners I look up to. I own so many indie polishes from many makers and would love to work with all of them! I've had the honor of working with a few already, such as Jenna from Polished for Days who is amazing and Alison from Candied Apple Polish. If I had to pick I would love to collaborate with Taryn from Anchor and Heart Lacquer. She's a sweetie and I feel like we have a similar fan base. I would also love to work with Shleee polish because her shimmers are so amazing and I've been purchasing a lot more from her lately! Lastly, I'd say Pahlish because her polishes are so awesome too!
Speaking of collaboration, would you ever collaborate with a famous person, dead or alive? And who would it be?
This is a tough one. I don't think I could pick one. I have to say I love collaborating with my customers. I haven't been able to make customs in a while, but bringing someones vision to life is so exciting. Sometimes their ideas aren't something I would normally make so it is also inspiring and gives me ideas for other polishes.
Besides polish, what are some other hobbies you love, that people wouldn't guess?
Nothing too out of the ordinary! I enjoy reading, kayaking, and camping.
Not speaking of polish, what are brands you love and support on the other spectrum of handmade products?
I love browsing and shopping on Etsy, especially for Christmas gifts. I don't have any brands I constantly go back to for handmade products, but I enjoy anything that's unique and can really appreciate the effort that goes into handmade products, so I try to support those companies as much as I can.
When you aren't working on creating polishes, what do you do for down time?
Between making polish and teaching first grade I don't get too much down time. When I do, I tend to just relax with friends, family, and my dogs! Oh and of course watch Netflix!
What was the last movie you saw and theaters and what's your mini review of it?
I rarely go to the movies, so the last one I actually saw in theatres was “La La Land.” I love musicals and it lived up to the hype for me. The music was great and I'm actually working on a polish inspired by it right now.
What's your cup of tea when it comes to beverages? Are you team coffee, matcha, spiked sparkling water, IPA's?
Team coffee all the way! I need at least two cups a day. Then for fun, IPAs ;)
Finally, is there anything new in store for Noodles Nail Polish in the coming months?
Over the Summer we'll be putting all our efforts into Fall and Halloween polishes and I'm so excited for them!
If you need any other reason to support Natalie, she's a NJ native, so support your state creators.
Also, her mom is the sweetest, and at Indie Polish Con, we came up with Mama Noodle as her mascot name.
What are you eyeing?
