When I was younger, the only piece of jewelry I would wear, was rings. It's funny because for so long, I ended up forgetting how much I loved wearing them and never would. It wasn't until this year, when I was introduced to Nightbreed Creations, that I re-discovered my love for them. I had been admiring a bunch of crystal rings for about a year, but hadn't actually made a purchase until this brand came into my life. And of course, it was just by accident on Instagram.
It's safe to say, after my first purchase, I was purely obsessed and made a second purchase immediately (I now own 8). I even ended up gifting one to my sister and have plans to gift one to my mom and older sister as well. Sakina really makes intricate pieces, and they are so unique and one of a kind. I think that, along with her personality and artistry, are what keep me going back for more.
What urged or inspired you to start creating and making your pieces?
I have always been creative in many ways, I was just more focused on photography and sculpture. Nightbreed allowed me to fuse all my creative outlets, to make pieces that people could take with them and wear.
What has been your favorite piece you have created (photo if available), and why it's your favorite?
My third eye rings are my absolute favorite. I carved it just looking at my mother resting. We always kiss each other on our third eyes. I'm currently losing her to cancer, so having her resting face in silver, has been some sort of solace for me.
Explain your entire day creating pieces.
I usually lay out a couple of projects and bounce back and forth between them, since I work with so many different metals and materials. Once I have ideas laid out, I'll work until I'm falling asleep at my desk. The whole day will fly by and I won't even notice.
What do you believe sets you apart from other independent jewelry makers?
I've always been unafraid to show vulnerability through my work. Sometimes, symbols mean so much more when heart is really infused in it. I've had so many people pick up certain pieces and burst into tears. They'll tell me that they've never seen anything that resonated with them in that certain way. I know I'm not the only jeweler that can create such a feeling, but I do think it sets me apart in some ways.
Prior to making your own pieces, what did you think you'd be doing in life?
Traveling and continuing my backpacking journeys.
What has been the biggest advice you have received since having your own brand?
Do everything with love. It is simple and cliche, but it has resonated with me very deeply.
How do you get away from discouragement and errors?
I laugh it off, pick something else up, and focus on that. Usually I'll switch up metals, if i'm feeling discouraged with one in particular, and that really helps.
What are some of your favorite indie brands to support?
I absolutely love so many! As far as body care, Return To The Roots. I also love Roots Of The Sun. I literally have so many favorite jewelers, I couldn't possibly pick. I tend to gravitate towards other indie brands that really put love in what they do.
What are your daily used items; makeup, skincare, body care...etc
I use all of the above! As mentioned, a lot of my body care is from Return To The Roots.
What is one thing in your life, you can't live without?
A super strong cup of authentic chai.
If you could go back in time and change anything, without repercussions, what would you choose to change?
My mother's diagnosis, without a doubt.
What TV show or movie, do you refuse to watch, despite all the love and hype?
Game of Thrones. I just can't get into it.
How do you relax and wind down after a long day of work?
Usually a nice cup of tea and sketching.
What is something you think people should do at least once in their life?
Travel somewhere you know you'll be uncomfortable. It'll push you to learn more about yourself.
What is one thing you have yet to do, that you have always wanted to?
Mine my own crystals.
Sakina quickly sells out and keeps creating new special and lovely pieces. My collection continues to grow, just like her success. I can't wait to see what's in store (like stud earrings!!!).
I can't encourage enough, to support Nightbreed Creations and Sakina's art. If you have purchased from the shop, was has been your favorite item?
And if there is anything you'd want Sakina to come out with, what would it be?
