When I get introduced to a new brand, there are things in particular I look for, in order for me to feel a connection with the brand. Obviously, being cruelty free and vegan are my priorities, but as I invest more and more time getting introduced to handmade and indie brands, I look for a connection.
You might have already noticed that a good majority of the brands I feature have a serious personality when it comes to their branding. Thus, I'd love to finally be bringing you this Q&A with one of my favorite indie brands out there. It's not because of the products, but the branding, the spirituality, the authenticity, the connection!
Firme Arte isn't like any other shop out there, how do you continue to make sure your brand stands out above others?
Honestly, I have just always tried to create products and an overall aesthetic that represents the parts of myself that I never saw represented within magic or esoteric healing before. Representation amongst the communities I represent is very important to me. (Indigenous Hopi - Xicanx | Queer | Trans/TwoSpirit). I also heavily reference media and art that has resonated with me on a soul level. I believe within that resonance, a real powerful sense of creativity stems from it.
When creating Firme Arte, what is one thing you promised yourself you’d stay true with?
To only sell products that truly resonate with me on a soul level and that provide powerful vibrations of healing to the user. My work is to be used as an act of political resistance against the social, political, sexual, and religious forces that have kept us enslaved.
When creating your products, you could tell there is a lot of inspiration, but what has been the most inspiring movie, book, or artist that has continuously impacted your life?
Movie: The Craft, & What The Bleep Do We Know!?
Artist (music): Pearl Jam & Radiohead
When it comes to executing your products, you put a lot of spirituality and acceptance, do you think that people take that for granted?
I think that at first in the beginning of my journey with Firme Arte most definitely. It’s taken some time to build this community and to educate them about my process and my overall message on this planet. Healing and transformation isn’t easy and everyone enters their healing journey at different stages in their life, so I have a community that is very vast and diverse. So it has taken a little bit of time to be recognized for the amount of ritual and energy I put into each item. Currently, I’m feeling more than ever that my work is being understood and received in a way that I have always dreamed about. I am very grateful.
At the same time, because of the community, you started a YouTube channel. How has that impacted you as a person?
Starting to YouTube has definitely had me access a part of my healing journey that I had been putting off for a long time. That being me being seen more in my truth. The YouTube channel has allowed me the safe-space to slowly break out of my comfort zone and start evolving the shy parts of myself. Being able to be present that on film or with my voice has been very impactful. It has inspired me to continue to move forward with this video media part of our mission. We’re currently in the works on executing a beautiful live streaming show entitled “digital witch TV” where it will be a live interactive community experience where we hang out, listen to music, smoke, do Tarot and Oracle readings or just discuss topics amongst the community and within occult and esoteric issues.
A simple question, how did the name Firme Arte, come to fruition?
An old lover of mine, who I deeply admired and who’s artwork was such a inspiration to me when I was growing up, used to comment on my artwork back in the day and they would always say “yo, your work is Firme dude” and that word had always resonated deeply with me. It’s also a word that has been a part of the artist community that I was raised around. It represents the beauty in my xicanx culture and a time in my life that I really cherish. When It came time to name my business back in 2011 it was the first thing that popped in my mind. I had realized in that moment that is why that word and phrase had resonated so much with me because it was leading me to this moment, ultimately create what we now know as Firme Arte online
You’ve been around since 2011, how has each year helped you in growing and what has been one of the biggest challenges throughout the years?
Bootleggers. Copycats, people who have been poaching and stealing my ideas and creativity since 2011. Straight up, that has been the biggest obstacle that I’ve had to deal with since creating a small business to support myself and my family. But it has caused me to have to evolve my business and craft out of a means of survival and I am grateful for that because I have turned my business into something more than just an online store. It is a movement, it is a feeling, and it is a revelation that there are people on this planet that want to do the powerful self healing work that is necessary for us to continue to evolve as a species.
Looking back to when you first started, what did you envision with the brand and how much have you accomplished that?
When I first started, my main obstacle was simply to have a means of income that was rooted in some of my artistic talents. As we grew and the community started to assemble, we realized that this is much bigger than we could have ever imagined. What started as a way to eat and survive tuned into the realization that we are here on this planet to do the work of the earth. I always like to say we, the sensitive’s of this world, are like real life X-Men and we are all coming into our powers at a very critical time in human history. I am here to create a safe space for these babes who are newly discovering their powers.
Because of your branding, and personality on your socials, you have begun doing community tarot readings. Why do you choose to do this?
Because I feel that a lot of us don’t have access to that type of content outside of the community. I felt that free community content, such as Oracle or Tarot readings were necessary because we need to all receive messages from the universe and those messages sometimes, when from outside sources, hit us the hardest. I am grateful to have been given the gift of communication with spirits and my ancestors and I channel them every time I do a reading. The readings are catered specifically to our community and I am grateful that they have all been received so well. I continue to want to expand that part of the community by offering more in-depth free readings on a weekly basis.
What has been the best review or testimonial from a consumer of yours, you have ever received?
“@milkedwitch - As a picky witch, it’s few and far between when it comes to finding ethically sourced, community driven magic and goods being produced by some totally rad babes. Firme Arte has surpassed my needs and expectations, and challenged me to use my own magic for something more expansive. They have built up and connected a network of people aimed at healing, having each other’s backs, confronting harmful energies, and positively redirecting the ways in which we move through the world as people who, for the most part, have been othered from most non-magical spaces. Candle magic, daily self care tools, community readings, signal boosts, vetted resources, and personal touches are just a few of the ways that this rad team has provided solace for myself and countless others. Firme Arte is truly magic, something to be cherished, and a force to be reckoned with. ”
On a regular basis, what are your go to food and beverage choices?
Food: Plant based tacos of all kinds.
Beverage: Topo Chico, Chamomile tea & Hibiscus tea.
Out of all your products, which are you favorites to have constantly in your life?
- Hella Sensitive Anti Anxiety Empath Ease Crystal Infused Inhaler & Roll On Oil
- Gimme Dat Money Crystal Companion Candle
- The Fuck Outta Here Salt Soap
What other cult classic movies, musicians, books are you thinking of making collections of?
I usually keep that stuff hella secret but we do have some new items on the way inspired by the late 80s, early 90s alternative music scene, that went down in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) know as the “grunge” era. That era is everything to me in terms of ascetic and music. I am constantly trying to pay homage to that musically abundant time in our history.
How do you find yourself healing?
Honestly, for a very long time I did a really shitty job at taking care of myself. Physically and emotionally/spiritually, it super caught up with me in my late 20s and self-care, no matter how small, has become a key player in my ability to heal from the trauma that has plagued me. We exist in a world that has structures that are created to keep us stressed, dehydrated, unhappy and never truly satisfied with our lot in life. We seldom are grateful for the bounty that we have.
I try to find time for myself to write like 2 pages a day of just stream of consciousness just to unload my mind for the day. I show gratitude in every way I can for my existence no matter how traumatic it’s been. I try to indulge in some form of ritual every day, I use my oracle and tarot cards to find answers and advice for my days. I also incorporate lots of plant magick into my life as a way to connect to the ancestral elemental forces that exist. Baths have also become such a staple in my magical practice. The art of being fully submerged in the magick that is water while adding botanicals to amplify the intent is something that has been a real powerful force in my life and in the ways I integrate ritual into my life.
If you could tell your consumers and new fans anything at all, say it now.
I love you. I believe in you. The fact that you have found us and our community is a sign that you are one step closer to shifting your current reality. You are worthy. You are allowed to heal no matter how difficult or beautiful the process. You are beauty. You are loved. May you be protected from ignorance and be allowed a safe space to exist in this realm apologetic. Thank you for finding us. C/S (Con Safos)
