When it comes to vegan bags, there’s no hesitation on the #1 brand I recommend. I have gotten bags from Deux Lux for YEARS and I still have them in my collection. Each one of my family members also has a piece from them, because I just can’t help it and had to spread the vegan handbag love. My mom never leaves without her Mott Zip Wallet, me and my sisters all have matching pom pom wristlets, and I have 5 pieces of my own.
While I’m not showcasing any of my other pieces, it’s because they are well loved and not in the best condition from wearing them EVERY day! Which only showcases how amazing the quality is. I’m not one to take care of my bags, something I wish I was better at, but I don’t have to try too hard with Deux Lux.
They were kind enough to send me this gorgeous weekender, and I brought it away with me for a weekend. It surpassed my expectations. But I already knew it would. Let’s learn all about the mastermind behind Deux Lux.
As a bag brand that is ethical and vegan, how do you find yourself changing the leather industry?
When we first started out in non leather materials there we many challenges, mainly the idea that if a bag is not leather it can't have quality or luxury to it. With the quality of our bags and design I think we have been able to change that opinion and I think that's a big step in this industry.
You've been around since 2005, how has the brand grown and changed since you first started?
You would be surprised to know that the line when we first launched did use leather. While I would do the sourcing of materials I grew increasingly uncomfortable as I would sift through leather swatches and simultaneously I was starting to see how innovative the non leather suppliers were becoming and the quality we could achieve and it was a no brainer - we switched entirely to non leather materials.
Where does the name Deux Lux come from?
It's a funny play on words. My lucky number is 2 and 2 in French is Deux so.....Deux Lux!
When creating new bags and accessories, how do you get inspiration and come out with collections?
Inspiration for me comes from everywhere but I have to say living in New York is great for the creative juices. Art, jewelry, architecture and nature are the big ones for me but also fabrics and textiles that I source are a major starting point for any collections.
Throughout the years, what has been the piece you loved creating the most?
Oh that is very hard to say! We are known for our weaves so I do always get very excited when we come up with a new weave concept or pattern!
Before starting Deux Lux, what where your life goals and plans?
Before Deux Lux, I had just graduated law school and so that would have been my path! I had a change of heart and decided I needed a more creative outlet for my career and here we are.
What was one dream for Deux Lux you had, that you accomplished?
I don't know if I had any big expectations or dreams for Deux Lux, it was a small endeavor that has turned into so much more and I honestly never anticipated where we would be 13 years later.
When it comes to being a vegan bag brand, what are some of your favorite vegan or cruelty free bloggers/influencers?
That's a tough question as there are so many great ones out there now but to name just a few....Mena Suvari, Alicia Silverstone, The Vegan Jetsetter.
If you were to collaborate or work with anyone on a collection, who would you choose and why?
We may have some exciting collaborations in the works so stay tuned!
Outside of creating bags, what do you spend your time doing and enjoying?
Love spending time in nature, being with my family and cooking.
What's the last book you read, that you felt a connection with?
Sadly while I love reading, running a business and having a 2 year old at home does not allow for a lot of reading time!
Are there any other interests or hobbies you have that people would never guess?
I don't know if it would be any surprise but I love, love, love to cook and I also love pickling things!
What is one piece of advice that changed your life and influenced you with Deux Lux?
I think the one thing that holds true in business and probably every other aspect of life is to trust your gut and my gut has always served me well.
What's one place you want to go to, and haven't been to yet?
Greece is definitely on my list and haven't been yet!
If you don’t already own a piece from them, you MUST! These bags are by far my favorite out of all the vegan handbag designs and they keep coming out with more.
They also have amazing sales, and samples sales often, where you can get so many of their amazing pieces for a STEAL.
