When I first went cruelty free, perfume was actually one of the VERY last things I converted. For me, it was really hard finding perfumes that not only lasted, but that smelled just as good as commercial ones. Although I have found brands that work for me, the best one has been DefineMe Fragrance in the past year!
After so many cruelty free and vegan beauty bloggers kept mentioning the brand, and speaking highly of it, I knew I had to pick it up. Especially considering they are sold at Ulta, which is readily available for most people. When I took the quiz, it told me Sofia Isabel wold be the one for me, and it was NOT wrong. If you have been eyeing the brand and the products, take the quiz, it's so accurate.
With all that said, it's an honor having Jennifer of DefineMe Fragrance on this weeks feature.
As the brand owner of DefineMe Fragrance, what actually defines you as the creator?
What defines me is my desire to make a positive impact on women, how they feel about themselves, how they define themselves.
Not only does DefineMe make consumers smell divine, but it gives back $1 of each bottle purchased to She's The First. What made you dedicate the brand to this?
Thank you! From the beginning we knew that giving back would be at the core of who we are. Giving back to girls’ education was the perfect fit for our mission to help empower women through fragrance.
As the creator, which scent do you think explains you perfectly, and if it doesn’t exist, what would the notes be to epitomize you?
I see all women, as well as myself, as onions with many, many layers. We’re not just one note. This is why there are 6 scents and soon to be 7 scents, that layer. I love to blend depending on my mood. With spring around the corner, I’m finding I reach for Delphine, Audry and Clara quite a bit. I honestly love and wear them all.
Perfumes are everywhere you look, Sephora, Ulta Beauty, Target….what do you think sets your creations apart from all the rest?
I believe what sets DefineMe apart is our mission to empower through fragrance and it’s not just marketing lip service, it’s truly at the core of who we are and why I started this company. We’re the only fragrance company, that I’m aware of, that adds coconut oil to their EDP’s. We also give back per bottle purchased, sadly this is not very common. However, I’ve noticed more companies are jumping on the band wagon, yay! Plus, we’re vegan + cruelty free, we have a dedicated vegan + cruelty-free following and they tell us how hard it is to find vegan + cruelty-free fragrances. Lastly, our fragrances last all day! xo
Would you ever consider doing a collaboration scent with someone famous, if so, who would you want it to be with?
This is a tricky question. If we ever did, she would have to exemplify everything we stand for: women’s empowerment, giving back, support vegan and cruelty-free products. Also, we’re really about the ‘every woman” and we believe that we’re all special and deserve to feel special. I’m not opposed to it, but she would have to be a very special person on the inside, not just someone with 1 million instagram followers.
What has been the proudest moment you’ve had with DefineMe Fragrance?
There have been so many. I was proud when Ulta took us on board as their first indie fragrance brand, I was proud when we won 2016 Trendsetter at Cosmoprof, I’m always so proud when someone creates a video for us and talks about DefineMe with love. I’m proud when our customers tell us that they love what we’re doing. I’m proud when I get a formula just right, as in our Hair Fragrance Mists. I am so proud when we send our yearly donation to She’s The First and hear about the girls’ we’re helping. I’m always so proud of our team, we’re little but mighty. ;)
If you could call yourself right now, at some point in time (past or future), when would you call yourself and what would you say?
I would’ve called myself in 2014 while I was getting ready to launch DefineMe and I would’ve said, “this is your purpose”.
What is one piece of advice, as a business owner, that you recommend everyone should follow in their life?
Instead of asking, “what should I do with my life”? Ask instead, “how do I want to feel in my life”? This question will help you get so much clearer on your life’s purpose.
If you could sit down for coffee or tea with anyone right now, who would you choose (dead or alive) and why?
I’d choose someone who’s dead as that’s much more impossible and interesting. I’d choose my grandfather, I miss him and loved his advice. We’d probably just chit chat about life, love, and family.
What are the last 5 songs you listened to or added to a favorites playlist?
Let me look….okay, Day I Die (The National), Tell Me Something Good (Chaka Khan), Thunder (Imagine Dragons), Joanne (Lady Gaga), Die Young (Sylvan Esso).
So random, I know. I love everything, rap, classical, indie….
Why do you think everyone is obsessed with the Real Housewives? What is it about the show that has you as a fan?
Lol, my husband doesn’t get it. It’s weird because I hate drama and when it gets too heated or they get too mean, I turn it off. It’s sort of a mindless distraction from my very busy and often times, intense days.
I am actually intrigued by some of them who are successful business women like Bethany Frankel, she’s a freakin’ rockstar…she’s good motivation for me. She started out from the bottom like me and worked her way up. Thanks Bethany!
What is one of your favorite things to do that is extremely underrated?
Walk, I love to go for walks with my hubby, Thomas, and two pups, Layla and Hobbes.
We all have them, our last meal choices, what are yours?
Sushi. I haven’t been completely converted to veganism yet. :)
What can we expect from Define Me in 2018?
You can expect to see a new scent personality, a couple new product launches and some cool brand and social collaborations.
I love how motivated Jennifer is, not only with the brand, but as an empowering #girlboss!
Have you tried DefineMe Fragrance yet? If so, what scent are you using?
Speaking of collaborations, who would you like DefineMe Fragrance to collab with?
