I wanted to take a break from featuring nail polish brands, because I wanted to venture out and explore other indie makers. But what I failed to share, upon featuring nail polish makers, is that many of them create other awesome things! Baroness X, is one of those brands. I reached out to Demi, and asked if she wanted to be a part of the series, and not only did she agree, but she sent me everything but the polish, in this photo. The polish was a part of the For The Love Of Polish Box, which I will eventually have a review on.
To my surprise, everything was VEGAN! Yes, you read that right. Get your wallets ready ladies and gents, you're about to spend some money.
Let's get to know the magician behind this sorcery.
Let's start off with you explaining how the name for your brand came about?
Well when I first launched my brand was Baroness of Glitter, but the USPTO wouldn't allow that name to be trademarked so we changed it to Baroness X.
How important is it to you that your products are cruelty free and vegan? As a maker, do you focus on only buying cruelty free and vegan products?
I have a love for all animals and it's important to me to try to make a difference as a maker. That said, it is important to me to be aware of what I am purchasing, such as supplies and what I put in my products, so my customers can make informed decisions. I don't use any animal by-products with the exception of beeswax in the Matte Swatcher's Balm and some pigments for nail polish. So that's why I use the term vegan-friendly. All my products are cruelty-free because I only test on humans, myself, and I buy ingredients for my products from cruelty free vendors.
What is your favorite product from your shop and why?
It's hard to pick one because I put a lot of thought, time and love into all my products but I would have to say the polish collection I made using unicorn pee pigment. It's the Ex Libris Collection and I think my favorite polish from that collection is a tie between Alhambra and Dulcinea.
Along those lines, what has been your most popular product and what are your thoughts on that?
My most popular product is either Doomfire which is a unicorn pee polish I made as a custom polish for The X Army (the Baroness X fan group made by and run by Baroness X fans - linked). OR it's my solid sugar scrubs I named Sugared Baubles. My fans love them and they are great for getting microglitter or flakies off your skin after polish removal. They are filled with quality butters and oils to moisturize as well.
What is your favorite part of the indie and Etsy community? Least favorite part?
My favorite part is the community, the fans and the support I've seen them offer one another. My least favorite part is the drama that can sometimes happen.
What are some of your favorite brands to support?
I don't buy much polish but I used to before I was a maker. I also run a small jewelry shop on Etsy called demiflux (linked) and I make snow globe jewelry in addition to "nail polish jewelry". When I first started making the painted jewelry I bought quite a few polishes from Darling Diva and Digital Nails.
What are some of your favorite hobbies, not including Baroness X.
I love to create things even if it's not for work. I like to cook, bake and create art.
Are you a binge watcher and if you are, what are some of your recent binges? If not, what are your favorite shows?
I try to take some time off each week to relax or I would get burnt out. That in combination with the fact that I don't watch much TV means I don't have an opportunity to binge watch anything. I don't even own a TV, we watch everything from a laptop. My favorite shows right now are The Walking Dead, South Park, Black Mirror and Humans. I can't wait for Game of Thrones to come back!
What would be your last meal?
Probably kobe beef and oven baked truffle mac & cheese, with wine of course.
What do you think pushes and inspires you in life?
Creating makes me happy, so being happy is what inspires me. :)
If you could change one thing in the past, what would you change?
Nothing, even mistakes are worthy life experiences if we learn from them.
Lastly, what is something you want to tell future makers? Any words of wisdom?
Testing and testing times are the most important thing next to having good customer service.
Demi just had a new collection release yesterday, it's a set of shimmer toppers to convert any polish into a shimmer polish. You just made every single one of your creams, into two polishes, you're welcome.
The collection includes 8 toppers, that will retail for $55, you can pick 4 for $30 or buy them individually for $8.50. These are very similar to the unicorn pee shimmer finish, without the color shift, so stock up.
I highly recommend the matte lotion, really sinks well into the skin and the cuticle oil....as I put it on daily but most importantly the sugared baubles...especially in the pistachio scent!
