I know it's a weird title to start off a post with, but it's an accurate title. Now, it's not that I started growing my hair out, not that I have any problem with females that choose to do so, I just have other methods of hair removal that I prefer.
I've never been one to have much hair, so when I was growing up, my mom didn't let me shave when all the other girls were. When I started playing soccer, I felt self conscious and decided to do it behind my moms back. She obviously found out and because she had really bad hair growth, she thought the same was going to happen to me. It didn't, thankfully,
Out of nowhere, someone had recommended my mom the Epilady to remove hair. At first, it hurt, and it was an adjustment, but we both realized how minimal our hair growth became the more we did it. But all good things must come to an end. The amazing first machine we had burned out (we bought it in Portugal), and we had to buy another one. The second one was never like the first one, and because of that, I actually stopped using it. I started shaving my legs, arms and bikini area, once again.
Fast forward to my senior year of college (2009), I finally decided to get a Brazilian done. WOW, that's a life changing experience. I got so obsessed with it and would get it done every month. When I moved back home, I didn't know of any good waxing places, so I bought the entire kit, and did it at home. Not the best waxes of my life, but it wasn't breaking the bank.
Fast forward to this year.....for the past couple years, I've been waxing my underarms and shaving the rest. But shaving is not only tedious, it's annoying. Shaving every other day, getting hair to grow back so much thicker...I mean, I'm not very high maintenance, but it's just a pest. So I finally decided to go back to the 2 things that really helped me.
Let's start off with waxing...
Now, European Wax Center (not sponsored) states they are 100% cruelty free and I have had other cruelty free bloggers confirm this, so that's why I chose it. The unfortunate part is that their wax does have beeswax, so it is NOT vegan. That's something I'm extremely bummed about, but until I find a better alternative, it's something I'm OK with. I was nervous going back to getting waxed down there, but knew I'd fall right back in love.
The wax is made of little beads, which melt into the wax, and then dry to rip off, instead of using strips to rip off. My first trip back, took a while, about 30-40 minutes, but it wasn't as painful as I remembered it being. The female I had, was amazing and we totally talked about random stuff throughout the entire time. I was comfortable, and that's huge for me.
She told me about the products, and highly recommended I get the package deal and the ingrown serum, since it was my first time back and ingrown hair was bound to happen. I was planning on doing the package anyways, because you get 3 free visits, when you buy 9, as a first time guest. And I absolutely bought the serum and have been using it down there and under my arms.
My second trip back took about 15 minutes, and I'm stoked to say my hair growth has been so minimal. It feels so amazing to not have to worry about this type of thing anymore, especially since it's the summer. I even recommended a friend go do his shoulders, after he asked for my recommendation and he totally loved it!
Now let's talk about the Epilady....
I started re-using the one we had a couple months ago, despite it SUCKING and taking forever to remove hair, it took a while to grow back. I feel like the strength of it just wasn't what I needed in order to get the job done. I had been looking for a new one, and found the Michael Todd Hair Eraser (linked, not sponsored). I thought the price was exceptional at $59, and ended up buying it.
I typically wax my underarms, but tried the epilady under my arms and OHMYGOODNESS!!!! When I tell you my jaw dropped, I was in complete disbelief. My hairs were removed within seconds. SECONDS! Of course I felt a little pain, to me, it feels like getting a tattoo, but it was nothing like the pain of waxing under there.
I began using it on my legs, and wow.....I didn't think it was going to be this amazing, but seriously, it is. Now, I know my epilady is really old and there have been updates and upgrades, but I seriously did not expect this. I did both my legs and underarms in less than 30 minutes. One of my favorite parts about this machine is that it comes with a light, so you can see the hairs directly.
As of right now, I'm totally in love and can't wait for my mom to try this one (she's in Portugal until end of August), as I know she's going to love it!
So there you have it.....the reasons I stopped shaving. I still having shaving stuff in the shower, Acure Foaming Shaving Gel and Dollar Shave Club, but I haven't touched either in months and don't plan to.
I highly highly highly recommend these things, and have nothing but great things to say about both.
Let me know if you have done either or if you plan to!
